This interactive 3D pop-up book introduces 3rd and 4th graders to the science of volcanoes through interactive visuals. Inspired by my own fascination with geology, I saw an opportunity to make complex scientific concepts more accessible and exciting for young readers.
My creative process began with a scaled-down mock-up, allowing me to refine the structure before finalizing the vector illustrations in Illustrator and assembling the final layout in InDesign.
The book features a mix of pop-up elements, and pull tabs, encouraging exploration through tactile imagery. Bound using a Coptic binding method, the final design balances scientific accuracy with playful storytelling.
A key challenge was adapting the content to 3rd–4th grade reading levels, ensuring both the language and interactive elements were intuitive and age-appropriate. Through research and iteration, I developed a visually dynamic and educational experience that makes learning about volcanoes fun and memorable.
